The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

Justin HUBBEL (Anaheim, California, USA), Lorin J. FINNIE (Reigate, Surrey, England), Phillip SMITH (Ithaca, New York, USA) and Ronald NEALY (Freeport, Florida, USA)

Chris MILNES (Grantham, Lincolnshire, England), one of our old assistants from 2003 and 2004, has also come back to visit and is also volunteering for the White Shark Trust.

On Friday the 8th of April, we launched in the late morning due to the new moon low tide restricting us to launch Lamnidae safely in Kleinbaai harbour... Beautifulo day at first, but the clouds moved in and rain followed suite... We observed fourteen different White Sharks today! Excellent day!
Below is a small video clip filmed by Phil Smith...
On Friday evening, we had a farewell party for the Shark Diving Unlimited Scientific Expedition group lead by Primo Micarelli. Michael Rutzen and Jenna Cains presented all the participants with their certificates, while our guesthouse hosts prepared a braai feast. The group visited the Two Oceans Aquarium and Shark World today...
... On Saturday 9th, Sunday 10th and Monday 11th of April, the weather turned really ugly with a lot of rain and some strong SE winds. We were stuck onshore for a few days... On Sunday, we were invited to go out to sea on board Barracuda (Shark Diving Unlimited), and Justin and Lorin did join the trip.
After three days of 'black south easter' (i.e. south easterly gale force winds and non-stop rain), we managed to launch Lamnidae again on Tuesday the 12th of April 2005... Great underwater visibility, nice weather, light rough seas, and unfortunately only three White Sharks who preferred to stay deep. Best underwater visibility in April so far though!
