The White Shark Trust is not conducting any fieldwork during the months of January, February and March 2005. Michael Scholl is taking a break from the fieldwork to concentrate on analysing all the information collected from 1997 through 2004.

One of our assistants, Trey SNOW from Wilmington (North Carolina, USA), has been with the White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship since the beginning of October 2004. Trey will board Barracuda, the commercial cage-diving vessel of Shark Diving Unlimited, to continue the collection of information and identification photographs of the White Sharks visiting the area.

On Thursday the 13th of January 2005, Annette von der Emden, one of Michael's childhood friends from Switzerland, and her boyfriend Sebastien visited us in Gansbaai on their three week holiday accross South Africa. Shark Diving Unlimited invited them to discover our White Sharks on Friday the 14th on board Barracuda.
The weather was unfortunately grey and wet, and as soon as anchored, it started pouring down with rain... but then the sky cleared and the rain stopped. We were lucky! We observed four different White Sharks! Unsure about what to expect, and slightly nervous and afraid, Annette and Sebastien were soon amazed and charmed by the Sharks!
Barracuda then sailed through Shark Alley, and we looked at the Cape Fur Seal colony on Geyser Rock... The Seals' reproduction season is now finished, and the island is covered with baby Seals... Trey drove Barracuda back to Kleinbaai... Scary!

Annette and Sebastien then invited Michael and Tracey for lunch at Cafe on the Rocks, before leaving east along the Garden Route.
