The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

Mario LEBRATO CAMBLOR (Sama Langreo, Asturias, Spain), Alexia CURMI (San Gwann, Malta), Elsbeth Louise McSTAY (Newport-on-Tay, Fife, Scotland) and David Anthony JONES (Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK)

Andy Brandy CASAGRANDE IV is living in Fishoek on the shores of False Bay where he is assisting Alison KOCK (South African Museum / Save Our Seas) with her research project at Seal Island for the next few months.

Timo SECKLER (Ellenberg, Germany) has been our assistant from the 15th of July to the 15th of August, and will continue his assistantship with the White Shark Trust from September through January 2006. Timo left for Mossel Bay on the 15th of July to assist Ryan JOHNSON with his active telemetry tracking of White Sharks in the bay.

Thursday the 25th of August, as the storm has not yet hit the South African coastline, we launched Lamnidae... Just a few Sharks during the first three hours, but then as we were giving up, more Sharks suddenly appeared, and we observed ten different White Sharks today! The best day in many weeks! Great day! Alexia stayed on shore since she did not feel well today.
We experienced a massive and powerful storm from Thursday evening through Saturday, with waves in the 25 to 40 ft range hitting the Western Cape coastline. On Sunday the 28th of August in the morning, our friend Lance, manager of the Carcharias Boutique, decided to hit the remaining waves in Romansbaai with his bodyboard... Unfortunately, the swell had come down surprinsingly fast overnight... Surfers call bodyboarders lovingly 'Shark Biscuit'...
