The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

Edward FARRELL (Dublin, Ireland), Clova JURK (Perth, Scotland), and Sarah BAHAN (Idaho, USA)

Timo SECKLER (Ellenberg, Germany) has been our assistant since the 15th of July 2005. He assisted with the manual telemetry tracking of White Sharks in Mossel Bay during the month of August.

Andy Brandy CASAGRANDE IV has been our assistant, guest and especially friend since September 2003, and he has been living in Gansbaai and assisting the White Shark Trust during most of 2004 and now again in 2005.

On Tuesday the 15th of November 2005, Dale, our trusted Yamaha outboard mechanic, brought a spare gear box for Lamnidae... and we launched soon after! Great day at sea with twelve different White Sharks, following one of our shore transects along Haibaai. Beautiful flat and hot day!
Later that afternoon, a Cape Fur Seal appeared next to Lamnidae... curiously swimming around the boat... Fortunately, there was no Shark around the boat at that time...

Little, did we know that the our third White Shark of the day was actually Bruce from Finding Nemo: 'I am a nice shark, not a mindless eating machine. If I am to change this image, I must first change myself. Fish are friends, not food.'

Surprised! For sure, we did not think that Bruce would also not eat any Seals either... This Seal actually swam after the Shark, and chased off two Sharks during the thirty minutes he played around the boat... I guess there is even crazy Seals!

The underwater photographs below and the video clips above were taken by Andy today with a Canon D20 digital SLR and a 3-CCD Sony DVCam in Ikelite housings... Enjoy!
Dyer Island Cruises hosted a fund-raising presentation evening about Cetaceans for PhD student Simon Elwen at the Great White House in Kleinbaai that evening... Great talks about the research conducted on Whales and Dolphins along our coastline, and many amazing photographs. Former assistant, Jenna Cains joined us for the evening...
