The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

Edward FARRELL (Dublin, Ireland), Clova JURK (Perth, Scotland), Sarah BAHAN (Idaho, USA), and Barney DUNLOP (Bath, England)

Timo SECKLER (Ellenberg, Germany) has been our assistant since the 15th of July 2005. He assisted with the manual telemetry tracking of White Sharks in Mossel Bay during the month of August.

Andy Brandy CASAGRANDE IV has been our assistant, guest and especially friend since September 2003, and he has been living in Gansbaai and assisting the White Shark Trust during most of 2004 and now again in 2005.

On Thursday the 24th of November, Thanksgiving Day, we launched Lamnidae. This was probably the best day this month with five different White Sharks, of which, one was really great and fun to play with. Unfortunately, the weather and sea conditions got very bad during the day, and the Sharks stole our chum attached on the side of our boat.
Some photographs taken by Andy today with his Ikelite housed Canon D20...
The player Shark we had today surprised us when she came up to the side of the boat and stole our chum bags attached to the side of Lamnidae... Most Sharks do not dare approach the boat on the side, but some do not seem to have the same apprehensions.
Happy Thanksgiving Day!

In the evening, we celebrated Thanksgiving, and our two American assistants, Sarah and Andy, prepared a feast... I must say that I was a bit worried when we bought the Turkey, and they both said never to have prepared a Thanksgiving meal... But they did an amazing and delicious cooking job!

We welcomed Timo and his parents, our friends and neighbours, Lance, Jean and Jade, and two students from Belgium assisting with the White Shark research project in Mossel Bay, Julian and Marie.

Following the Thanksgiving party, some strong sea hit our coastline, and we were stuck on shore for a few days. On Saturday the 26th of November, our assistants discovered Die Stal (The Stable), the local dancing club located on the outskirts of Gansbaai. This party lasted into the early hours of Sunday.
