The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

Anna BATTESE (St-Fadden, Australia), Brandon MITCHELL (Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA), Mike PERSSON (Red Deer County, AB, Canada) and Bryce ROHRER (Greenwich, CT, USA).

Andy Brandy CASAGRANDE IV is living in Fishoek on the shores of False Bay where he is assisting Alison KOCK (South African Museum / Save Our Seas) with her research project at Seal Island for the next few months.

Chris MILNES (Grantham, Lincolnshire, England), one of our old assistants from 2003 and 2004, has also come back to visit and is also volunteering for the White Shark Trust as a friend and guest.

Justin HUBBEL (Anaheim, California, USA) has been our assistant during the months of April and May 2005. On the 17th of June, he returned to Gansbaai for a few days from a three week trip around southern Africa, from Namibia to Mozambique, via Botswana and Zimbabwe... On Thursday the 23rd of June, Morne Hardenberg drove to Fish Hoek with Justin to spent a couple of days with Alison Kock at Seal Island. Justin left back to the USA on Saturday the 25th of June.

Friday the 24th of June was another beautiful day with perfect sea conditions... The calm before the storm maybe... Unfortunately the Sharks were more frustrating than being stuck on shore for days on end... They just remained deep most of the time, and behaved in a very shy manner. We observed five different White Sharks today.
Mid-afternoon, we spotted three Humpback Whales swimming past south of Geyser Rock... Frustration with the Sharks took its toll, and we decided to go look at these Whales... and it was amazing! The three Humpack Whales just gave us the best Whale display anyone could have... It was absolutely wonderful!
